John P. Filbert (1886-1961) was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and died in
Granada Hills, California. In 1892 he moved with his family to Los Angeles, California,
where he married Margarette M. Filbert (b. Coyle) in 1910. He started his career as a
merchant for a trucking company but by 1920 was working as a moving picture supplies
salesman. He eventually owned his own company in the motion picture supply industry,
John P. Filbert Co., Inc. Sometime after 1950 he retired and moved to Granada Hills.
Filbert was a Master Mason affiliated with Elysian Lodge No. 418 in Los Angeles. He was
the son of John P. and Lizzie L. Filbert who were students of Mary Baker Eddy's,
practitioners and teachers of Christian Science, and active in the establishment of
Christian Science in Los Angeles.
