Marie Z. Fancher (b. McFall) (1832-1912) was born in Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania, and died in Syracuse, New York. In 1853 she married Jesse C. Fancher, a harnessmaker, in Great Bend, Pennsylvania. By 1855 they had moved to Binghamton, New York, and by 1880 to Ithaca, New York. After her husband's death in 1883, Fancher moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she resided until at least 1906. She then moved back to Binghamton briefly before going to live with her daughter's family in Syracuse for the remainder of her life. In the mid-1880s Fancher studied Christian Science with Ellen E. Cross, a student of Mary Baker Eddy, in Binghamton. She then took the Primary course from Eddy in March 1888 and subsequently joined the Christian Scientist Association. She was listed as a practitioner in The Christian Science Journal in Philadelphia from 1889 until 1906 and was the Principal of the Quaker City Institute of Christian Science in Philadelphia from 1900 through 1904. Fancher joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 1, 1893, and served on the executive board of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Philadelphia in the early 1900s.
