Mary A.F. Emerson (1831-1913) was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, and
lived in many places throughout the state, including Boston, Waltham, and Cambridge. She
was married to Elijah Emerson (1820-1904), a violin maker who for many years located his
business on Court and Hanover streets in Boston. Although she was familiar with and
studied the works of Mary Baker Eddy, there is no record of her studying with Eddy or
joining the Christian Scientist Association or Church.
