Nelson R. Doe (1836-1915) was born in Newbury, Vermont, and died in
Bradford, Vermont. He was a fruit wholesaler who learned his trade in the 1850s at
Faneuil Hall Marketplace in Boston, Massachusetts. Doe became interested in Christian
Science in early 1885 and wrote to Mary Baker Eddy, asking her to take his wife, Ellen
A. Doe, as a patient.
