Edwin Dillingham (1839-1864) was born in Waterbury, Vermont, and died in
Winchester, Virginia. He graduated from law school in Poughkeepsie, New York, in 1859
and practiced in Waterbury, Vermont. He was commissioned as an officer in Company B of
the Vermont 10th Infantry Regiment in August 1862 and was promoted to full major in June
1864. Major Dillingham was mortally wounded while commanding his regiment at the battle
of Winchester on September 19, 1864. The Grand Army of the Republic post in Waterbury,
Vermont, was named for him ("Edwin Dillingham Post No. 22").
