Caroline Dean (1822-1906), later known as Caroline D. Merrill, was born in Bath, New Hampshire, and died in Rutland, Vermont. She married George A. Merrill in October 1846, living in Rutland for many years where George was superintendent of the Rutland & Burlington Railroad. Dean was also a friend of Mary L. Bean.
