Richard de Charms Jr. (1842-1921) was born and died in Pennsylvania. In
1885, he married Marie de Charms (b. Fremaux). De Charms was a Civil War veteran,
serving in the 21st Infantry as a Private in 1862, then as a Corporal in the 52nd
Pennsylvania Militia in 1863. After his service, he trained as a law student. He then
worked as a grammar school teacher before becoming a clergyman in Denver, Colorado, then
in Pennsylvania. In 1886, de Charms wrote to the Massachusetts Metaphysical College to
order pamphlets.
