Jessie Day (1859-1933) was born in New Jersey and died in Seattle,
Washington. She was the daughter of Orrilla and George Day, both students of Mary Baker
Eddy's. Although she also expressed an interest in studying with Eddy, there is no
record of her doing so. In 1889, Day compiled and arranged the first hymnal specially
prepared for Christian Science services titled
Hymns and Tunes for the
Church of Christ (Scientist). It was published privately in Chicago, Illinois,
by her mother. Day joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts, on June 30, 1894. She was listed in the directory of
The
Christian Science Journal as a Christian Science practitioner in Illinois from
1899-1912.
