John H. Daniels (1828-1901) was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and
died in Newton, Massachusetts. He married Marianne Daniels (b. Spear) in 1851. In 1853,
Daniels purchased an engraving and plate printing business that had been established in
1828 by Joseph Andrews, believed to be the first of its kind in Boston and one of the
oldest plate printing businesses in the country. In 1892, Daniels brought his son, John
A. Daniels, into the business with him, and it became known as John H. Daniels &
Son, continuing in business after Daniels's passing.
