Annette C. Danforth (b. Howe) (1846-1912) was born in Natick, Massachusetts, and died in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. In 1868 she married her first husband, Alexander T. Smith. He was a Civil War veteran, mustering out at the rank of Lieutenant. He was known to General Ulysses S. Grant, who sent a letter of congratulations on his wedding. After the war he worked as an internal revenue storekeeper until he died in 1877. In 1878, she married Francis "Frank" E. Danforth. He was a carpenter and worked as a machinist in a shoe factory. She studied Christian Science with Julia S. Bartlett and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston Massachusetts, on April 1, 1893.
