J. W. (Joseph W.) Cushing (c.1855-1927) was born in South Reading (now
Wakefield), Massachusetts, and died in Wakefield, Massachusetts. He corresponded with
Mary Baker Eddy in 1883 and 1884, and at that time, he was working as a house painter in
Lynn, Massachusetts. Cushing painted the house and fence at 443 (previously 439) Boston
Street, Lynn, a rental property owned by Eddy until June 1884.
