George Cushing (1839-1914) was born in Maine and died in San Diego,
California. He worked as a druggist and married Lelia A. Cushing (b. Fletcher) in 1864.
He resided in Skowhegan, Maine, for most of his life, but the couple later moved to
Madison, Maine, for many years before moving to San Diego. Cushing was a prominent
member of the Centenary Methodist Episcopal Church and served as Skowhegan town and
county treasurer. He wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1886 to order a copy of
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Based on the records
available, we have found no further information concerning his involvement with
Christian Science.
