William C. Cunningham (1830-1895) was born in Uphall, West Lothian, Scotland and died in Bay City, Michigan. He married Helen E. Cunningham (b. McLean) in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1850. They moved their family to Stratford, Ontario, Canada, in 1860. In 1871, they moved to Detroit, Michigan, where Cunningham entered the Homeopathic College of Medicine (this would later become part of the University of Michigan Medical School). He began practicing in Vassar, Michigan, in the spring of 1872. In the fall of 1875, he entered Hahnamann College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to further his studies in medicine, and he graduated there in March 1876. The family then moved to Bay City, where he would work as a homeopathic physician for the rest of his life. Cunningham wrote to Mary Baker Eddy in 1886 to order copies of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
