Serah "Sarah" M. Cowen (1831-1918) was born in Millville, Massachusetts, and died in Worcester, Massachusetts. She worked as a dressmaker. She studied Christian Science with Annie V. C. Leavitt in about 1884 and with Sarah H. Crosse in May 1886, both students of Mary Baker Eddy. In February 1887 Cowen took the Normal class from Eddy and subsequently went into the public practice of Christian Science in Worcester. She joined the Christian Scientist Association in April 1887 but withdrew in June 1888 following events surrounding the Abbie A. Corner court case. Later in life she became a grand matron of the Stella Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
