John W. Cowdery (c. 1835-1889) was born in an unknown location and died
in West Haven, Connecticut. He was one of the first graduates of the University of
Michigan's law school. By 1886, he was a self-proclaimed mindreader and faith cure
scientist. According to Nettie D. Lowery, he was teaching Christian Science in Hartford,
Connecticut, and claiming to have studied with Mary Baker Eddy, but there are no records
that he ever did so.
