Thomas G. Copp (1819-1886) was born in Castine, Maine, and died in
Somerville, Massachusetts. He married Harriet L. B. Wass in 1841. They moved west and
settled in Iowa in 1855, platting the town of Grundy Center and constructing its first
building. They moved to Eldora, Iowa, in 1875, where Copp purchased the local flouring
mill. In early 1886, Harriet Copp wrote to Mary Baker Eddy, asking for information about
Christian Science treatment through prayer for her husband.
