Frances A. Clarke (b. Ayres) (1836-1912) was born and died in Worcester, Massachusetts. In the early 1850s she attended the Charlestown Female Seminary, and in 1858 she married Josiah H. Clarke in Worcester. Her husband began his career as a partner in a submarine business but then went into the dry goods business and was the proprietor of J. H. Clarke & Co. for 44 years. In the mid-1880s Clarke was healed through Christian Science treatment by Albert B. Dorman, one of Mary Baker Eddy's students, and also participated in a Bible class he taught in Worcester. She joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 1, 1900.
