Joseph L. Churchill (1859-1928) was born in Florida and died in Portland,
Maine. He owned a dry goods store and later established a button manufacturing company.
He was affiliated with the Ligonia Lodge of Odd Fellows. He married Jennie J. Churchill
(b. Crowell) in Portland in 1885. The Churchills both took the Primary class with Mary
Baker Eddy in January 1887, became members of the Christian Scientist Association and
the National Christian Scientist Association in 1887, and joined The First Church of
Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1893. Their daughter Jessie N. Thompson
(b. Churchill) also joined the church in 1903.
