Levi A. Childs (1840-1915) was born in Hampden County, Massachusetts, and
died in Richmond, New York. During the Civil War he served as a Private in Company B of
the Massachusetts 46th Infantry Regiment from 1862-1863. He studied with Mary Baker Eddy
in her class that began on February 25, 1884, and joined the Christian Scientist
Association in March. Childs was expelled from the Association that November. He became
a teacher of "mental science" in New York, New York, in the 1890s and continued in that
capacity into the early twentieth century.
