Mahala S. Cheney (1807-1866) was born in Sanbornton, New Hampshire, and
died in Minnesota. She was a domestic worker for the Baker family. She married Russell
Cheney, a farmer, in Plymouth, New Hampshire, in 1845. Mary Baker Eddy's son, George
Washington Glover, was sent to North Groton, New Hampshire, to live with the Cheneys in
1851. In 1856, the Cheneys moved to Minnesota, taking Glover with them. Family letters
indicate that Mahala had been a good friend of Eddy's, who trusted her to raise
Glover.
