Estelle F. Cheney (1863-1900) was born in Barre, Vermont, and died in
Haverhill, New Hampshire. Cheney studied Christian Science with Albert B. Dorman in
April 1885 and moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada, later that year. While there, she
purchased multiple copies of
Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures from Mary Baker Eddy and worked as a healer. Although she expressed
an interest in studying with Eddy, there is no record of her doing so. She graduated
from the Emerson School of Oratory in Boston, Massachusetts, in the late 1880s and
worked as an elocutionist in Montreal in 1890. By 1897 she had moved to Haverhill, where
she worked as a merchant selling millinery and ladies' furnishing goods. She belonged to
the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was a member of the Bright Star Rebekah Lodge
No. 18 of Barre, Vermont.
