Edward R. Chase (1834-1899) was born in Buffalo, New York, and died in Dubuque, Iowa. Along with Lovell J. Taylor, he was a proprietor of the Julien House in Dubuque. Chase was a veteran of the American Civil War and served as Captain in the 11th Wisconsin Infantry, Company F. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, a fraternal organization composed of Civil War veterans.
