William T. Carpenter (1850-1923) was born in Illinois and died in Fort Worth, Texas. He married Susan Etta Lewis in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 1876. Carpenter worked as a merchant and later as a foreman on the El Paso and Southwestern Railroad. Although his wife was a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, there is no record of Carpenter studying with Eddy. He joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on March 31, 1894.
