Martha G. Brown (c.1809-1881) was born in Scotland and died in New York, New York. Her real name was Martha G. Billsland. Brown, alongside her daughter, Elizabeth, operated a Metaphysical University and patent medicine company from their home at 51 Bond Street in New York. The school was founded in 1865, and in the years preceding its founding, Brown traveled around major U.S. cities performing healings. Her major written work was Mrs. M. G. Brown's Metaphysical Pamphlet (1871). After Brown's passing, her daughter Elizabeth continued to operate the Metaphysical University and the patent medicine business.
