Ruth A. Brierly (1853-1928) was born in Fall River, Rhode Island, which later became part of Fall River, Massachusetts, and died in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She became interested in Christian Science in 1884 when she was healed by Seabury T. Manley, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. She then studied with Eddy, completing the Primary class in 1885 alongside her husband, James E. Brierly. She joined the Christian Scientist Association on October 7, 1885, and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 5, 1895. In 1893 she helped organize what would become First Church of Christ, Scientist, New Bedford, and she was also a Christian Science practitioner, listed in the directory of The Christian Science Journal from 1898 until 1909.
