William H. H. Benford (1837-1916) was born in Pennsylvania and died in
Denver, Colorado. He was a real estate developer responsible for the construction of The
Benford Hotel and Hotel Peerless buildings in Denver. Benford became interested in
Christian Science in 1885 after his wife, Sarah, received Christian Science treatment
through prayer from Jennie B. Fenn, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's. He later studied
with Eddy alongside his wife and his daughter, Elenora, completing the Primary class in
May 1887. He joined the Christian Scientist Association in June 1887 and joined The
First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, in April 1893 and was a
member until his passing. Benford was a Christian Science practitioner, listed in the
directory of
The Christian Science Journal from 1890 until his
passing.
