Mary L. Bean (1821-1863), later known as Mary L. Noyes, was born in New Hampshire and died in Meredith, New Hampshire. She was the daughter of Samuel and Sally Bean. On July 1, 1840, Mary L. Bean married Enoch W. Noyes in Meredith. They had three children: Samuel, Sarah, and Ella. As young adults, Mary L. Bean and Mary Baker Eddy had a mutual friend, Augusta Holmes Swasey, with whom Bean and Eddy corresponded. Not correctly reading which letters were from which Mary, several biographers mistakenly claimed Eddy as the author of Bean's letters to Swasey.
