Edwin Battles (1814-1897) was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts, and died in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a successful farmer and the father of Josephine Curtis Woodbury, a former student of Mary Baker Eddy's who brought an unsuccessful libel suit against Eddy in 1899.
