P00345 Samuel D. Baker (1808-1868) was born in Bow, New Hampshire, and died in
Charlestown, Massachusetts. He was Mary Baker Eddy's eldest brother. Baker worked as a
mason and eventually left Bow for Boston, Massachusetts, to go into the building
business and became a contractor. In 1832, he married Eliza Ann Glover, the sister of
Eddy's first husband, George Washington Glover. After divorcing Eliza for desertion in
1857, he married Mary Ann Cook in 1858. In 1862, Samuel and Mary Ann escorted Eddy to
Portland, Maine, to be treated by Phineas Parkhurst Quimby.
