Charles L. Babcock (1863-1927) was born in Illinois and died in Manitowoc
Rapids, Wisconsin. He grew up in South New Berlin, New York, and united with the Baptist
church when he was 15 years old. Babcock moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1890 and
worked as a dentist. He married Georgia Richardson in Springfield, Missouri, in 1898.
After she passed away in 1906, he married Rose M. Schuette in Manitowoc in 1907.
Babcock's sister, Ruth B. Ewing, a student of Mary Baker Eddy's, gave him a copy of
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures which sparked
his interest in Christian Science. He wrote to Eddy in 1886, expressing an interest in
studying with her, however there is no record of him doing so. Based on the records
available, we have found no further information concerning Babcock's involvement with
Christian Science.
