Maria J. "Jennie" Anderson (b. Marsh) (1832-1914) was born in Guernsey,
Ohio, and died in Newton, Iowa. She married George T. Anderson in Guernsey in 1855, and
by 1880 they had moved to Newton where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Sometime in the early 1880s Anderson's husband went from practicing law to becoming the
proprietor of a boot and shoe store in Newton. In 1886 she wrote to Mary Baker Eddy to
order a copy of
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
to be sent to her sister-in-law Mollie S. Anderson. Anderson studied Christian Science
with Valeria J. Campbell and joined The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston,
Massachusetts, on July 3, 1897.
