William Taylor Adams (1822-1897) was born in Medway, Massachusetts, and
died in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was a teacher, author, and member of the
Massachusetts House of Representatives (1869-1870). Adams wrote hundreds of books under
several pseudonyms, but his most used one was Oliver Optic. In 1885, Kate L. Morse wrote
to Mary Baker Eddy to ask for information about studying at the Massachusetts
Metaphysical College and named Adams as a reference.
