When a child of about 13 years I united with the Congregationalist church, and never left it until I had one built on its foundations. The only difference being the spiritual element taking the place of the material in its forms and doctrines.
I was first called to the pulpit in Boston to supply the desk of a Free will Baptist clergyman Rev Mr Williams who died a few years since
My church is the Church of Christ, chartered in 1880. I was ordained its Pastor in 1881.
We believe only in the baptism of Spirit. Our sacrament is a silent communion with our dear Lord and Christ. We repeat the Lord's Prayer As Written: prayer audibly and offer man's prayer silently
The first Tenet of our Church is -- “We take the scriptures as our guide to life eternal." "We covenant to faithfully obey the ten commandmentsEx 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying, Ex 20:2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Ex 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Ex 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Ex 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; Ex 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Ex 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. Ex 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Ex 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: Ex 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: Ex 20:11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Ex 20:12 ¶Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Ex 20:13 Thou shalt not kill. Ex 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. Ex 20:15 Thou shalt not steal. Ex 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. Ex 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. to deal justly, love "mercy and walk humbly with our God"Mic 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? etc We are essentially an Evangelical order, the life and teachings of Jesus as contained in the four GospelsEditorial Note: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are our basis. We believe that healing the sick is essential to Christianity As Written: christianity We have no doubt of the inspiration of the scriptures. We admit thoroughly the Godhead and divinity of Christ, but in more of a spiritual than a personal view do we understand the former as Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the divine Life,
Truth and Love, a trinity in unity with man. The Son Jesus was two fold in character, Christ the God, Jesus the man through whom God was made manifest; and as many as receive His word become the sons of God spiritually.John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. The Holy Ghost we understand to be the divine spirit given to such as shall receive it. The vicarious atonement not to consist As Written: consit of blood or in it, but the sacrifice of Love, and the life, teachings and demonstrations of Jesus, whereby we are to be saved. The full plan of redemption being to save man from sin sickness and death. "Waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of the body"Rom 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. Rom 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
