I read with gratitude your eloquent speech as published in "The Inter OceanEditorial Note: Chicago Inter Ocean" relative to Christian Science. My address read by Judge Hanna before the Parliament of Religions was copyrighted. This renders the newspapers publishers of it legally responsible. Also I am informed that Rev. Joseph Cook publicly called me an "old charlatan". This also makes him legally liable to prove this which would be very difficult.
I have written to said editor to sell no more of my copyrighted matter and I forgive him all. I know not the P.O. address of Bro. Cook and cannot write to him therefore I ask this favor of you. Please say to him I freely forgive him for such libelous language and love every one, especially my enemiesMatt 5:43 ¶Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. Matt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Luke 6:27 ¶But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Luke 6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. .
A word further. I was in the first instance opposed to having my students in Christian Science (which number many thousands) take part in the World's FairEditorial Note: World’s Columbian Exhibition, held in Chicago, Illinois, in 1893.. Christian Science inculcates spiritual love for all men but no worldliness. I fear the ambition of my students was touched. As it is I decline to have my aforesaid Address published in the World's Fair book which is to contain these matters.
My God demands of me to come out from the world and touch not the objectsII Cor 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, II Cor 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. which can in any way deviate my spiritual sense from peace and good will.
