My dear DoctorAs Written:Doct.,

Perhaps you have not received my last letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. - but I hope this will reach you by Sat. I am sick - Wed. Afternoon my illness increased so that I could retain nothing on the stomach, I have not been able to since but a short time. Neuralgia in the spine and stomach seems to be the cause, producing a state of nervous inflammationAs Written:inflamation. My sufferings are at times extreme I do want to see you. I know not what this attack may result in, but one thing I pray, that it may be the divine will that I am not to languish out months on a sickbedAs Written:sick bed; nevertheless, "not my will but Thine be done"Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

My only relief is to take Morphine which I so much disapprove. I have not had a Physician except a call from cousin Willie Chamberlain who is at home now to see his MotherEditorial Note: Mary Ann (Baker) Chamberlain. I have little confidence in him, he is a mere boy - If tis greatly disadvantageous to you, to come over Sabbath eveningAs Written:even if you should get this in time, do not come, but let me hear from you. I am too weak to write more at this time

Thine forever,
Mary
