I have just read Richard's letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant. in which he named As Written: naned your tenderness and your dear Mother's towards me in this unlooked–for hour. And for once since I saw you my heart has found vent, and I have wept! yes, & as only they can weep in the time of severest trial when love spreads its sheltering wings to hover o'er them. Was ever there a more glorious nature, a more noble soul than Richard Kennedy possesses? Sarah, a moan goes out of my soul here more plaintiveAs Written:plantive, more sad than the solitary sigh of a soldier left alone upon the field of strife, Will he forsake my interest? and ever deny me a home if he has one? or cease to remember how my heart has throbbed As Written: throbed in pain, until it responds to the touch of neglect with, a breaking agony. How have I enjoyed the protection, the peace, and luxury of home, while perhaps his own heart bled! I am pained at the thought even now, but this I shall remember if those days come back to me again my home shall ever be the asylum for the sick and sorrowing, if such are of the pure and true, earnestly working for. the uplifting of humanity, and for the good we all should do.

Let me be patient! My Father chastens in loveHeb 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. , and I know if my physical frame endures I shall rejoice here for every tear I have shed; and erelongAs Written:ere long enter the lighted sanctuary As Written: sactuary and cast off my crown won from the cross– at the foot of the throneRev 4:10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Rev 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. , whither have gone though great tribulation such as have washed their souls in the blood of the lambRev 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. which is the spirituality of truth bleeding from the wounds of error.

Let me be calm a little longer, yea, a little longer, and the curtain falls to us all and the scene changes. Then shall we be judged righteously, & known of God as we know HimI Cor 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. . This then, will, by the help of His Truth be my exaltation if I bear presently the humility that is the vale through As Written: though which we pass towards Horeb where the sunshine of wisdom is the light of the soul. O Sarah, I long to go! I long to see the dear ones who wait to welcome me & who so loved me here.

Let me wait! I see a lifelongAs Written:life-long labor which I should do, and the sickle As Written: syckle should be thrust in, the reaper truth should gather in joy such as have gone forth in tears to reap. Let me hope for, yea foresee this coming, and labor on, at times in joy (but briefly so) at times in darkness and tears. Yet let me labor and withhold not from the evil as well as good that which God hath revealed unto me nothing doubting but "He which sendeth his rain upon the thankful & upon the unthankfulMatt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matt 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. will mature the seeds of truth
