My very dear Student

You I know will see that I have not intentionally delayed to thank you for your sweet face and kind letter

I have so much on hand and nobody to help that I get mixed and forget much that I should remember

I hope you understand it was not my fault that your dear sister met with that hard trial – her husband's leaving my class!

He never appeared to enjoy a word I said but sat looking, well I will not say what I thought. I offered to give him his tuition but I would not break my rules for him. I do hope his dear wife will not yield too far to his selfishness for his good and her own.

Lovingly Yours

Lovingly [?] Unclear or illegible  Yours
