On Thursday afternoon, Dec. 1, 1910 after Mrs. Eddy returned from her drive she rested on the couch in her study at Chestnut Hill. There were present in the room Mrs. Laura E. Sargent, Mr. and Mrs. William R. RathvonEditorial Note: William R. Rathvon and Ella S. Rathvon, and Mrs. Eddy's maid, Adelaide Still, all of whom were members of the household. Mrs. Eddy asked Mrs. Sargent to hand her a writing tablet and pencil, and upon this sheet she wrote the words as they appear, "God is my life." This statement constituted her last written words. Mrs. Eddy did not speak or make any comment as Mrs. Sargent took the tablet and pencil.
