My dear Mrs Eddy

I have a daughter deformed from birth. I am very desirous she should be healed. When born she seemed to be a perfect form with the exception of what appeared to be a double joint in the spine near the small of the back. I noticed when I got able to take charge of her bath that I could not bather the neck on the right side as easily as on left side

She was very plump so I could not determine what caused the difference, but as she grew older it was more apparent. The peculiar place in spine flattened out, but the shoulder blades gradually became one higher than the other, until now at the age of twenty five years, her right shoulder blade is some four or five inches higher than the other and seems to be attached to the collarbone As Written: collar bone by an extra accumulation of bone which has held it there all these years. Her spine is curved and she suffers at times with severe pain in her back

She is married and has a young child. Since the birth she suffers more than ever. Has to often lie in bed for days. Her right hip is a little higher than the other, and right leg shorter than the left. She walks with left knee bent and does not limp. Dr Codman examined her some three years ago, and said the reason why she does not limp, is that across the lower part of the back, below where the bunch was in the spine, there is a solid formation of bone so that the hips cannot work up and down in a natural manner. I have read your booksEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and am deeply interested in the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science – and intend to take the Colledge course of study just as soon as circumstances will allow. In reading your book I learn that a deformity before birth is much harder to heal than one occurring after birth. I feel that my daughter’s case must naturally rank among the hardest to cure. I have therefore concluded to write directly to you; with faith that you can heal her when no other ScientistEditorial Note: Christian Scientist can. I see through what I read that your time is more than full, and that you rarely heal, owing to your great desire and effort to fit others for that field. But my dear Mrs Eddy won’t As Written: wont you in mercy take this one case? If you could see the dear child you would be charmed with her – for she is one of the most lovely and intelligent of our sex. If she could be cured, what an advocate she would be of Christian Science. I firmly believe As Written: beleive you can heal her, and wait impatiently to hear from you.

Very Sincerely & Affectionately Yours
Mrs J A Woods
