I want to express my gratitude for, & appreciation of your book Science & healthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy,, I am so glad that you have favored As Written: favord us with your picture But the sight of this makes me want one for my other book, To whom shall I apply for it, (To the Publisher or printer I suppose) I think I can fasten it securelyAs Written:securly intoAs Written:in to it, (the book) Will you oblige by replying upon this Postal, & tell me what I must pay for it if you know,

I will forward my book to you tomorrow by mail, (as there is no express office at this station) & encloseAs Written:inclose 17 centsEditorial Note: $0.17 in 1886 is the equivalent of $5.51 in 2023. to pay the same on your book

Excuse me Mrs, Eddy, But the last sentence in your Preface encourages me to make a venture,

I have been treated Absently for the belief of deafness in the right ear, & for inflammationAs Written:inflamation in the Right groin by one of your students H. N. Pool who advertised to treat cases in that way – or rather expressed in the Journal that he could do so, I sent him a small fee $3,00Editorial Note: $3.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $97.25 in 2023. (It was all I could give then) & asked him to give me treatment for those beliefs, He consented & set the time when he would do so; I had several letters from him each saying he was doing all he could for me – But when I informed him that I was no better he advised- or rather suggested that I apply to you — This was in May & June,

I cannotAs Written:can not go to you, I am not able, or rather I have not the means; Would if I could very quick,— I have been so zealous for this cause that I have never stated to my nearest friend or anyoneAs Written:any one, what I have just written you, for fear of making an unfavorable impression,— But if I had got my hearing restored, I should not have hesitated to give the praise where it belonged, One benefit As Written: benifit I have received from this treatment & from the perusal of your book, My general health is much improved, whereasAs Written:where as my usual weight used to be 104lbs it is Now 132lbs all within one year & since I first saw your sermonEditorial Note: A previous letter from Maria A.
