Editorial Title: Henry Newstetter to Mary Baker Eddy, June 28, 1883
Author: Henry Newstetter
Recipient: Mary Baker Eddy
Date: June 28, 1883
Manuscript Description: Handwritten by Henry Newstetter on embossed lined paper from Massillon, Ohio.
Editorial Note: A previous letter from Newstetter to Mary Baker Eddy, and Eddy's reply, are not extant. This letter is Newstetter's response to Eddy's reply. He tells Eddy that he wants to change his way of living and become a better man, but he realizes that this can only be done through God's grace. He has always thought that it ought to be possible to heal the sick today as Jesus did when he was on earth. Newstetter bought Eddy's book, Science and Health, from Clara E. Choate and he and his family love it. He inquires if Eddy would be willing to take him as a student so that he can learn to practice Christian Science for the benefit of humanity. (There is no evidence that Newstetter ever studied with Eddy.)
