I hope you will pardon me for troubling you, but I feel it my duty to God and man to cultivate the desire God has implanted in me. I always wished to be a physician, but had not seen any way to accomplish my desire, until last year when by chance I heard of Christian Science. I borrowed Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy read it and sent to the College for the same. I have made Christian Science my study ever since which is a little over a year have made many cures and some are quite remarkable. Have destroyed As Written: distroyed many beliefs of toothache within ten minutes without failing a single time. Have cured two cases of constipation where one party took an injection every time and the other a pill, both parties' As Written: parties bowels moved of itself before the first week of treatment was over. Have cured my next-doorAs Written:next door neighbor of almost constant flowing of two years' As Written: years standing, in just one month she had only three days' As Written: days rest between one month and the next, before treatment. Have destroyed As Written: distroyed many beliefs of, less consequence. A lady friend whose husband is very much opposed to Christian Science thought she should like to try it without having him know it and afterwardsAs Written:after wards tell of it. The chance soon came, her daughter sixteen years old had a belief of neuralgia in head, eyes and teeth for which they tried everythingAs Written:every thing without relief. At last the lady came to my house asking if I thought I could relief her. The daughter told me she felt easy as soon as I began treating her. I called again eight o'clockAs Written:o clock at night, had not been there ten minutes when she went to sleep and slept until after eight the next morning without waking, which she had not done since born. Her mother went to her room several times thinking that she must be dead being usually such a poor sleeper. Enclosed As Written: Inclosed you will find the noteEditorial Note: This note is not extant. the mother sent me the next morning. It made quite a stir, the family being prominent in society. A friend heard Mrs. Harries tell the Orthodox Minister's As Written: Ministers wife of it at the Sewing Circle, and heard her exclaim several times: "It is perfectly wonderful." Have in several cases relieved pain without knowing it. Perhaps you remember I had asked you last year by letter the lowest terms to study at the CollegeEditorial Note: See 683B.77.002 and 683B.77.004. and you offered to let me come for two hundred dollarsEditorial Note: $200.00 in 1886 is the equivalent of $5,765.32 in 2021., which I did not have at the time; but think I can get it now under certain As Written: sertain conditions, which explaining would make the letter very long besides I rather have you see me. You would do me a great favor if you would permit me to call on you somedayAs Written:some day; I will try not to detain you longer than ten minutes. I am very anxious to come to the College. I took the liberty to enclose As Written: inclose my photograph it may help you to decideAs Written:deside. It was taken eight years ago but have not changed much since.
Hoping you will favor me with a few lines.
