Dear Madam:

In reply to my request for sample copy of your paper, Journal of Christian Science, I received a card from Mrs. Hopkins, besides the desired sample copies – (of which I shall know more). Mrs. Hopkins suggests my joining a class which is forming under your instruction. As you are a woman of business, and every hour of my life is also crowded, I will go no farther into particulars than to say that yours is a subject in which I am deeply absorbingly interested. I have been trying for a year to see my way to come under instruction to the end that I may serve the MasterEditorial Note: Jesus Christ and earn my living in congenial employment – and although I realize that sacrifice is essential, and know that precautionary considerations may debar me, I wish to learn what the possibilities are.

I am in government office, and every day's absence counts – tho I have a “leave” - Please let me know the following points.

1. When does your next class begin?

2. For how long time is the course?

(not how many lessons only)

3. What would be the charge for lessons, and

4. Are there any other necessary expenses attending the acquiring of a full knowledge, such as would render one competent to practice? The financial reason for my desiring a means of livelihood is the very condition which stands most in the way of my securing it; the possibility of a change in administration necessitates a careful husbanding of resources; and I ask that just so far as consistent you will consider that fact.

A speedy reply will oblige, and will be necessary to enable me to leave my work for any length of time – in the near future.

Yours respectfully,
Mrs. Lucia J.K. Clark.
