For more than a year I have felt a great desire to get a clearer sense of Christian Science as given by your personal teachings, but obstacles stand in the way, yet they do not hush the desire, but so sharply contend, that I feel constrained, and now venture to write you, for some suggestion or advice in the matter. The first obstacle is my age, I am 71 - health not firm or strong, am rather forgetful - next, I am not able to meet the full expenses of tuition and board, as I am a widow of very small income, again, lack of courage - with a great reluctance about going alone, and have hoped in vain, by waiting, to find someoneAs Written:some one to go with me. I am a plain timid country woman fond of retirement, and the only acquaintance I should expect to meet in Boston, is what I have gained by professional treatments, of Dr. Buswell's

Should you think favorably of my going, under these circumstances, please state about what time - if I could board near or with you - and what reduction in expenses could be made, I may not be a fit subject, My chief object is to become more spiritual, with better health, rather than healing others, for often do I realize As Written: realise the presence of the "Still small voice"I Kings 19:9 ¶And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah? I Kings 19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. I Kings 19:11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: I Kings 19:12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. and wish to be led into a permanent understanding and a feeling sense of its divine power, which now I cannot grasp,

Respectfully yours,
Mrs. P. G. Brown,
