My dear Teacher

I feel that I have a right to address you in this way after the. guidance I have received during the past few weeks – I have continually returned thanks in my heart, and acknowledged Principle to be the power to whom is due all the glory, and have felt that mere words are but the tribute of Mortal mind to Mortal mind– But is not that "rendering unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's"Matt 22:15 ¶Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk. Matt 22:16 And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men. Matt 22:17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not? Matt 22:18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Matt 22:19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. Matt 22:20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? Matt 22:21 They say unto him, Cæsar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto C
æsar the things which are C
æsar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.
Mark 12:13 ¶And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the
Herodians, to catch him in his words.
Mark 12:14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Cæsar, or not? Mark 12:15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it. Mark 12:16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Cæsar’s. Mark 12:17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Cæsar the things that are C
æsar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him.
Luke 20:19 ¶And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them. Luke 20:20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor. Luke 20:21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly: Luke 20:22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Cæsar, or no? Luke 20:23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? Luke 20:24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Cæsar’s. Luke 20:25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which be C
æsar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.
? For that we have the Divine Command–

The memory of Ossian's poems as read by you to me, when I was a child sitting in the dentist's Chair at Franklin New HampshireAs Written:N. H. has always clung to me, and when I found that the reader and author of Science & HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was one and the same, there was a warmer sentiment still, and a strong inclination to immediately write and tell you so– It seemed to me from the very first that I was being drawn and held to the study of Christian Science from the first, by an inscrutable Providence, and that I have been kept from going astray by some friendly hand – which however in my ignorance, and because of the subtlety of the enemy, I could not see – but for which I have always been thankful—

If I ever go to my New Hampshire home again, I hope I shall be allowed to go and see you-
