Editorial Note: Hopkins reminds Mary Baker Eddy of when the two met at a talk Eddy gave on Christian
Science in Manchester, New Hampshire, in October 1883. Hopkins was full of questions
for Eddy on that occasion and was impressed at how Eddy refuted Hopkins' skeptical
arguments. Since then, Hopkins has fallen in love with Christian Science and wants
to study with Eddy. She gives Eddy some details of her life and background, as well
as of her difficult financial condition, and suggests that after class she could locate
near Eddy and pay her class tuition from her earnings as a Christian Science healer.
