Upon my return home I received your very very kind letterEditorial Note: This letter is not extant., and it grieves me exceedingly that I cannot at once accept your very kind offerEditorial Note: This "kind offer" probably relates to the possibility of Heywood studying Christian Science with Eddy at the Massachusetts Metaphysical College. , but within a few days past, we have receivedAs Written:recieved notice of intended visits from relatives & friends from both California & Dakota, so that I suppose it will not be possible for me to leave home for some weeks – The time seems very long that must elapse before I can see you, & I am continually wishing I could shorten it, but see no way of doing so –

You said I would find the demonstration of the truths you teach, to be remunerative –which pleases me, as it shows me a way by which I can lighten my great obligation to your generosity, for I well understand that it requires a vast outlay to sustain your position to do good; & I could not willingly allow myself to selfishly devour the bread that others souls are hungering for as I do –

A short time ago, or since I wrote you last, I received your Books –Science & Health –2 Vols –from Lockwood Brooks & Co's Publishing House, & I do wish I could command words to tell you how rich I feel in their possession –I can only say there were never faster friends than I with them – & I think a study of them will prepare the way for a better understanding of your instructions while I am with you –I will write you again as soon as I learn anything definite in regard to the time I can be with you –

I enclose one dollar in P. O. stamps for the Journal of Christian Science

With a heart full of gratitude I remain,
Truly Yours
S. E. Heywood
