My pupils meet every week & read your bookEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, Last night at our meeting, one of the gentlemen, (a very cultivated man,) asked an explanation of these passages, which seem so contradictory to your theory. Pages 191 & 192 "The inanimate, unconscious substratum of the human mind that we call the body, is the seedling that starts thought, and sends it to the brain for consciousness, We call the body matter, but it is as much mind, – – – – as the brains that furnish the evolution of all mortal things,
How can the body start thought, or the brains which "do not think," be conscious, & how can brains furnish the evolution of all mortal things?
If you will be kind enough to send me an explanation of these passages, so I can read it at our next meeting which is next Monday evening, I shall be only too glad to remove the idea of inconsistency which they have received from these paragraphs. There was a physician present who is on the borders of this truth, but like so many others here, have a feeling of antagonism towards you, and I am always defending you & your work, and this is the only thing I have come across that I haven't been able to answer. I have a superior class of people to deal with, & I want to be able to explain everything satisfactorily,
