I hardly know how to commence this letter and yet I feel as though I wanted to say something I have been reading your book Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy I read them (the two volumes), through once and am- now giving them a second reading. At first I rejected much that I found there but now I feel like accepting all that I have found so far. I have been very much interested in the perusal of these books but some things cast, a shadow over my daydreamsAs Written:day dreams and caused me to fall into "doubting Castle for instance"Editorial Note: This is a reference to The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan. A mere smattering of Metaphysical Science, is a cold bullet of nothing ails you" sent into every poor Invalid and cripple" I have been trying to heal as well as I understood the subject, by Metaphysical Healing but have met with indifferent results and by the way it might be well to state that I am a Physician but two or three years ago became disgusted with the Humbuggery As Written: Humbugery of Medicine and as a consequence my practice has declined and others are now reaping rich harvests where I once had a good practice. I should like to take a course in your College but I am satisfied I shall never be able to do so, I feel much interested in this subject. and I believe would be willing to leave all for Christ's As Written: Christs Sake but opportunity seems the one thing wanting. Perhaps I may be actuated by selfish motives I hope not I should rather go back to some more humble employment than become a Metaphysical Quack and thereby bring reproach upon the causeEditorial Note: The cause of Christian Science. The Science and HealthEditorial Note: Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy which I am reading I borrowed from the Rev. H. C. Waddell who by the way is a noble man and with whom As Written: whome I have had some conversation regarding this subject. Perhaps it would be well for me to state my reasons for not being able to take a course at your college. I am poor yet I don't As Written: dont wish you to think that I want to beg my way, I thought to make you a proposition that if you would let me take the course I would pay you as fast as I could make it over my expenses, if I am a proper person to practice the ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science. Perhaps you can give me some advice,
