I write with some disadvantage as I crushed the end of my forefingerAs Written:fore finger on the right hand in my machine, and although it is healing rapidly it is still done up, therefore you will excuse all imperfections. After I answer your question, I would like you to answer one for me, and I shall be guided fully by your counsel. As I wrote you in a previous letter, we thought much of Dr Dunlap, on account of his spiritual mindedness and Since his study of Metaphysics, he is always so anxious to know everything especially your word, and seemed to make it his law. and he is the only one that I had any comfort in conversing with, as those in this town that Mrs Rice taught with one exception are all spiritualists and most of them very illiterate. Spiritualists tend to take these controls at face value, while some parapsychologists and psychical researchers believe them to likely be secondary personalities created by the subconscious mind of the medium., and was not accountable far what she did, I advised her to call herself a spiritualist and not a ScientistEditorial Note: Christian Scientist so she would not deceive the people, as I felt ScienceEditorial Note: Christian Science was too As Written: to holy a thing to be contaminated As Written: contamunated by such proceeding, or such people, and that I certainly wiped every such one out of my acquaintances. Titus 1:10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision: Titus 1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake. in their mind instead of God. some think me a little too pronounced, but I am an enthusiast in anything I believe, and my Soul glory’s in, that which is of God, good, pure and elevating.

I know very little about Spiritualism, and all I do know or have seen, is sensual, deceiving, unholy ministering to matter instead of Soul, and demoralizing and I will have none of it

Your teachings As Written: teaching are in accord with my sentiments as I understand them and myselfAs Written:my self which gives me boldness to confront any ism and if I am not right will you as a Christian teacher tell me, I shall consider it a great favor

Now as regards Dr D.Editorial Note: Dr. Dunlap I had occasion to go to the city some three weeks since and I have been told by a number that he was a spiritualist and of course I have denied it, as I know him to be a regular attendant at Church and Bible class, and an interested Searcher for Truth At all events I thought I would make bold and ask him, plainly, "Do you believe in personal spirits his reply was, I do I see them I said I thought you were such a believer in Mrs eddy's teachings. She says there are no such things he said, "I believe Mrs Eddy to be one of the grandest mediums the world has ever known. I think if a bullet had went whizzing through my brain, I could not have been more dazed and sat for some minutes unable to collect myself and he commenced some explanation in regard to Spiritualism but I had not sufficiently recovered myself to comprehend what he said, and a rap came at the door and a lady entered, and I came out, and told him if I remained down I would go in again, but to be truthful with you I could not get the consent of my mind to go, and have not written him a line and I feel as if I had never known him, I can’t As Written: cant recover from the disappointment. Now what shall I do give heed to my own feelings or Suppress them, You can’t As Written: cant imagine how averse I am about giving them one bit of knowledge as my experience is they bring it into bad repute, and use it not for the glory of God but their own full purpose, and I believe it better to be a little more guarded about converting them, as I have not found a single one here but what try to make it over to their beliefs.

The DrEditorial Note: Dr. Dunlap said he had written you, and was waiting a reply, and was expecting to join the sept class, but of course that will be optional with you

Had I known of his beliefs I certainly would not have given him any encouragement nor recommended him to you.

As it is vacation with you I hope you will have leisure to give your views of Dr D.sEditorial Note: Dr. Dunlap’s case and my own also, as I shall be guided by your views of the case
